I had a very vivid dream the other night. It was a throwback dream to when I tended nets growing up in Kanata…no I wasn’t good enough for the Lasers. More of a second string Atom B type goalie but I thought I was pretty amazing. A boy’s got to have confidence right?

Playing in a tourney at the old Stittsville arena we had made it to the finals. As our starter went out for the start of the game he was blindsided by a linesman and went down in a heap. My number was called and I was pumped! With us up by one goal late in the third they dumped the puck down the ice and had their best player racing to the puck. I made the decision to race from the crease and beat him to the puck. As I got to the faceoff dot I realized I wasn’t going to win this race. I went down in my butterfly and slid towards him and the puck meeting him head on as he went ass over teakettle with the puck sliding harmlessly to the end boards. We won the tourney and this was the highlight of my hockey career.

Thankfully, Andy has a longer list of highlights in his illustrious career. From fighting his way from a backup in the hockey hinterlands of Florida to being the starter for a supposedly rebuilding Sens team. His ability to flash leather, stack the pads and stare down opponents is quality at its finest.
